After days of intense heatwave conditions, the weather in Jammu took a sudden turn on Thursday evening as strong winds swept across the city and surrounding areas. Several parts of the region also witnessed light to moderate rainfall, providing much-needed relief to residents who had been struggling with soaring temperatures close to 43°C during the day.
The gusty winds triggered dust storms at some locations, affecting visibility and disrupting normal movement. The Meteorological Department had earlier issued a Yellow Alert, warning of wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph across parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have advised people to avoid standing under trees, near weak structures, and in open areas during adverse weather conditions.
According to the weather department, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and intermittent rainfall may continue across various parts of the Union Territory over the next 24 to 48 hours. The change in weather is expected to bring down temperatures and provide further relief from the ongoing heatwave, though residents have been urged to remain cautious.
