A sudden spell of strong winds, thunderstorms, and rain caused disruption in several parts of Jammu on Thursday evening. In a major incident reported from Channi Himmat, a transformer collapsed and fell onto the middle of a road due to the powerful gusts, creating panic among residents and affecting traffic movement.
According to locals, the transformer came crashing down during the storm and heavy winds. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, averting a major accident. However, the incident temporarily disrupted vehicular movement and affected power supply in the area.
Officials from the administration and the power department rushed to the spot and began efforts to clear the road and restore normalcy. Reports of fallen tree branches and weather-related disruptions were also received from other parts of the city.
The Meteorological Department had earlier issued a Yellow Alert for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
