In a tragic road accident near Khalani Tunnel in Doda district, three people lost their lives while two others sustained injuries after a vehicle carrying Machail pilgrims met with an accident on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the victims were returning to Nagrota after visiting the holy Machail shrine when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a Swift car near Khalani Tunnel. Following the impact, the vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into a deep gorge/nallah alongside the road.
Authorities suspect that an overtaking attempt may have led to the accident, although the exact cause will be determined after a detailed police investigation.
Two other occupants of the vehicle were injured and shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for treatment.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation. The tragic accident has left the victims’ families and the local community in deep mourning.
