Jammu, October 13: The body of a woman who was swept away by floodwaters on the outskirts of Jammu city was recovered on Tuesday evening after a three-day search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Ruksana Kouser, wife of Mohd Kaleem, was swept away by a strong current in the Bagani Talab-Flora nallah in the Chinore area of Jammu following heavy rainfall on October 11.
According to officials, the incident occurred when the couple was trying to prevent their car from being swept away by floodwaters. The vehicle had stalled, and Kaleem was attempting to reverse it when they were caught in the strong current. While Kaleem managed to escape, his wife went missing.
Following the incident, SDRF, NDRF and police teams launched an intensive search operation across flood-affected areas. The search continued for three consecutive days, with rescue personnel facing difficult conditions due to strong water currents and challenging terrain.
The woman’s body was eventually recovered from a flood channel in the Gumpul area of Domana on Tuesday evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDRF) Albeena Malik said.
Family members expressed gratitude to the rescue teams for their sustained efforts in locating and recovering the body.
SDRF Commandant Mohammad Aslam also visited the affected areas to review the search operation and assess the challenges faced by the teams. Senior police and SDRF officers coordinated with personnel deployed on the ground during the operation.
The incident comes amid heavy rainfall and flash flooding that affected several parts of Jammu on October 11, causing damage to vehicles, roads and residential areas.
