Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, on Friday announced a full fee waiver for students belonging to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families in all government schools and the provision of six free LPG gas cylinders per year to AAY households while presenting the Budget 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly.
Presenting the budget, the Chief Minister said the measures were aimed at providing direct relief to the poorest families and easing the financial burden related to education and household energy needs.
Under the education-related initiative, all students from AAY families studying in government schools will be exempted from paying any kind of fee.
In another major welfare announcement, the Chief Minister said AAY families will be entitled to receive six free LPG cylinders annually.
Antyodaya Anna Yojana is a central scheme that identifies the poorest of the poor households for priority support under various welfare programmes.
