Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures, prompting a heatwave alert from the health department. Authorities have issued an advisory urging people to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The department has advised residents to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if not thirsty, and to consume seasonal fruits and light meals. People have been asked to wear loose, light-coloured clothing, cover their heads, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight, especially during peak hours between 12 pm and 4 pm.
Special attention has been advised for vulnerable groups including infants, elderly people, pregnant women, outdoor workers, and those with existing health conditions.
Symptoms of heat stress such as dizziness, nausea, excessive thirst, and rapid heartbeat have been highlighted. In severe cases like heat stroke—marked by confusion, high body temperature, and unconsciousness—immediate medical help via 108/102 has been recommended. Authorities stressed that prevention is the key to staying safe during extreme heat.
