Jammu: In a major action against the illegal liquor trade, the Police Post Jourian team busted an illicit liquor manufacturing unit and arrested one accused during a raid conducted in the area.
According to police officials, the operation was launched after receiving credible information during routine patrolling. Acting on the tip-off, the police team conducted a search in Piri Trai village of Jourian tehsil, where they uncovered an illegal liquor distillation setup.
During the raid, police recovered 16 litres of illicit liquor, 10 gallons of lahan (fermented mash used for liquor production), 6 kilograms of jaggery, one distillation furnace (bhatti), and one large vessel used in the distillation process.
The accused has been identified as Chain Singh, son of Khajan Singh, a resident of Piri Trai, Tehsil Jourian, District Jammu. He was arrested on the spot, and all recovered materials were seized as part of the legal proceedings.
Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of law and initiated further investigation. Officials stated that the drive against the illegal liquor trade will continue, and strict action will be taken against those involved in such unlawful activities.
