Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday performed the Pratham (First) Aarti at the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji, marking the ceremonial beginning of the Amarnath Yatra 2026. The sacred ritual is held every year on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
During the ceremony, LG Sinha prayed for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. He also appealed to devotees from across the country to participate in the holy pilgrimage in large numbers.
The 57-day Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Pilgrims will be able to undertake the journey through both the traditional Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
The Lieutenant Governor said that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and comfortable pilgrimage. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, in coordination with the civil administration, has strengthened facilities for accommodation, healthcare, sanitation, and other essential services. Comprehensive security measures have also been put in place by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, CRPF, and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Earlier in the day, LG Sinha visited the Baltal Base Camp Hospital to review healthcare preparations. He directed officials to ensure the availability of adequate doctors, paramedical staff, medicines, medical equipment, oxygen cylinders, and round-the-clock medical services for the safety and well-being of pilgrims.
