A former sarpanch was killed after a shooting stone struck his car on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) near Trishul Morh in Ramban district on Wednesday, officials said.
According to officials, Mohammad Iqbal Tantray, former sarpanch of Seri village in Ramban district, was returning home after dropping off a person in Ramban town when a large boulder rolled down a hillside and struck his vehicle near Trishul Morh.
Tantray sustained critical injuries in the impact. He was immediately rescued by locals and emergency personnel and rushed to the District Hospital Ramban, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Tantray, a resident of Seri village in Ramban district.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by shooting stones and landslides along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, particularly during the monsoon season.
