At least 32 pilgrims were injured after an Amarnath Yatra bus overturned near the S-Mode area of Hariganiwan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday. The accident triggered a massive rescue operation involving multiple security and emergency agencies, ensuring that all passengers were safely evacuated.
Soon after the incident, teams from the CRPF, ITBP, Jammu and Kashmir Police, local administration, and health department rushed to the spot. Rescue personnel quickly pulled the injured pilgrims out of the overturned bus and shifted them to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for immediate medical treatment. Pilgrims who sustained serious injuries were later referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar for specialised care.
According to preliminary reports, the bus reportedly skidded off the road before overturning at a sharp bend near Hariganiwan. Despite the severity of the accident, no fatalities have been reported, and the prompt response by rescue teams helped prevent a major tragedy.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials said the condition of the injured pilgrims is being closely monitored, while safety measures along the Amarnath Yatra route continue to remain on high alert to ensure the well-being of all devotees undertaking the annual pilgrimage.
