Jammu, July 24: Continuous rainfall since the early hours of Friday has triggered fresh incidents of shooting stones, mudslides, and landslides at several vulnerable locations along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Udhampur and Ramban districts, posing a serious threat to vehicular movement.
Officials said the persistent rainfall has caused rocks and mud to slide onto the highway at multiple stretches, increasing the risk for commuters and disrupting smooth traffic flow. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as intermittent rain continues across the region.
The affected locations have been reported to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and road clearance teams equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed to remove debris and restore traffic movement at the earliest. Restoration work is underway, with officials working to ensure the highway is made safe for travellers.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the administration has advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel on NH-44 until the weather improves and road clearance operations are completed. Travellers have also been urged to check the latest traffic advisories issued by the authorities before planning their journey.
Officials warned that with rainfall expected to continue, more incidents of shooting stones and landslides could occur at vulnerable stretches of the highway. The district administration, traffic police, and NHAI teams remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any emergency and minimise disruption to traffic.
