After days of intense heat, Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a change in weather over the next few days. According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT), light to moderate rainfall is expected across the Union Territory till June 30, bringing much-needed relief from soaring temperatures.
The weather department has also issued a Yellow Alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and localized heavy rainfall in vulnerable areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive intermittent light to moderate rainfall during these three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures.
On the last day of the month, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over several parts of the Jammu division, with a possibility of intense showers in some areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that gusty winds of 40–50 kmph may accompany the rain, with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph at isolated locations. Dust storms, lightning, and thunderstorms are also possible.
People living in hilly and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert due to the risk of landslides and mudslides. Travellers are advised to check the latest weather updates before undertaking journeys on highways.
With cloudy skies and widespread rainfall, day temperatures are expected to remain below normal across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, providing significant relief from the ongoing heatwave and humid conditions.
