More than 10 passengers were injured after a passenger Matador overturned on a busy road in the Digiana area of Jammu on Sunday. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, while some with serious injuries were referred for advanced treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the Matador, bearing registration number JK02AQ-4248, was carrying around 10 to 15 passengers when the accident occurred. The vehicle reportedly lost control and overturned in the middle of the road, leaving passengers trapped and injured.
One of the injured passengers, said the vehicle had been making continuous trips since the afternoon. He alleged that the Matador was being driven at a high speed. According to him, the driver attempted to avoid another vehicle on the road but lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Several passengers sustained fractures to their arms and legs, while others suffered head and internal injuries. Many were also injured by shattered window glass after the Matador overturned.
Following the accident, the driver fled the scene, while the conductor, who reportedly suffered a fractured leg, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after the incident, secured the accident site, and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Efforts are also underway to trace the absconding driver.
