The Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, in collaboration with the Legal Metrology Department, conducted a joint market inspection drive in Jammu’s Greater Kailash area on Monday to ensure compliance with consumer protection and trade regulations.
The inspection, carried out under the directions of FCS&CA Director Rajesh Kumar Shavan and led by Deputy Director Food & Rationing Sham Abrol, covered grocery stores, electrical shops, food outlets, and other commercial establishments. Officials checked the display of rate lists, accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments, product quality, MRP compliance, expiry dates, billing practices, and adherence to consumer rights.
During the drive, authorities detected several violations, including non-display of price lists, non-calibrated weighing instruments, and other regulatory deficiencies. The offending establishments were fined a total of around ₹62,000 and issued strict warnings to comply with the law, failing which stronger legal action will be taken.
Director Rajesh Kumar Shavan reiterated that the department remains committed to protecting consumer interests by ensuring fair trade practices, transparent pricing, and the availability of quality products. He also appealed to traders to strictly follow all statutory provisions, adding that similar inspection drives will continue regularly across the Jammu division.
