Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the conduct of the Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET), Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced on Saturday.
“As committed, the review petition has been filed before the Honourable Supreme Court. The government has consistently pursued this matter and remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of our teachers,” Itoo stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The move comes in response to a Supreme Court mandate issued last year, which requires all in-service primary and upper primary school teachers to pass the TET within two years to retain their jobs.
Minister Itoo had previously reassured educators on May 30 that the administration was proactively handling the issue. She noted that the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs had already directed its Standing Counsel to initiate legal proceedings. This follows a decision by the J&K School Education Department in February to put on hold an order designating the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) and the State School Standards Authority (SSSA) as the nodal agencies for conducting the test.
