Jammu and Kashmir Health and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Friday said that the Omar Abdullah-led government is moving ahead with its key welfare promises, including providing 200 units of free electricity and six free LPG cylinders to eligible households.
Addressing a public gathering in Tral, South Kashmir, Itoo said several commitments made in the government’s manifesto have already been fulfilled. These include enhanced marriage assistance, free bus services for women, and the restoration of the previous academic calendar.
She said the proposal to provide six free LPG cylinders has already been approved, while the process of implementing 200 units of free electricity is progressing. The minister also stated that work is underway to introduce free education, as announced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the Budget Session.
Highlighting improvements in the health sector, Itoo said the government has appointed 509 doctors in remote areas, while another 426 doctors will be posted after verification. She added that 626 vacancies have been referred to recruitment boards to address staff shortages.
The minister further said dialysis services have been expanded to district and sub-district hospitals, and non-functional oxygen generation plants installed during the COVID-19 pandemic have been restored. She maintained that although more work remains, the government has significantly strengthened healthcare infrastructure and public services over the past 19 months.
