Jammu, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Health Department will launch a Mega Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign on June 28, aiming to administer polio drops to 1,891,821 children below the age of five across the Union Territory to keep J&K polio-free.
During a State-Level Task Force meeting, Health and Medical Education Department Commissioner Secretary M. Raju reviewed the campaign’s preparedness and micro-planning. Officials informed the meeting that 24,176 vaccine carriers have already been distributed under a secure cold-chain system.
To ensure smooth implementation, the department has deployed 40,291 vaccinators, 2,610 supervisors, 10,253 vaccination booths, 791 transit points, 337 vaccination sites at fairs and markets, and 825 mobile teams.
M. Raju directed Deputy Commissioners and Chief Medical Officers to ensure 100 percent vaccination coverage, with special attention to high-risk areas such as nomadic settlements, migrant colonies, brick kilns, construction sites, and industrial zones. Transit vaccination teams will also be stationed at railway stations, airports, bus terminals, religious places, and major tourist destinations to ensure that no eligible child is missed.
The Commissioner Secretary noted that although India was declared polio-free in 2014, the continued circulation of the virus in neighbouring countries makes sustained vigilance essential. He urged parents, citizens, and community organisations to cooperate with health workers and ensure that every child below five years receives the life-saving “two drops” of the polio vaccine on June 28.
