August 2: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a fresh weather advisory warning of unstable weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir over the next seven days. The department has forecast intermittent rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several parts of the Union Territory and has urged residents, tourists, and travellers to remain vigilant.
According to the MeT, most areas are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, while isolated locations may receive heavy downpours. The department has cautioned that persistent and intense rainfall could trigger cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, particularly in vulnerable hilly and mountainous regions.
Special caution has been issued for commuters travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), where heavy rainfall could lead to landslides, falling debris, and traffic disruptions at multiple locations. Authorities have advised travellers, tourists, and pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Yatra to check the latest weather forecasts and traffic updates before beginning their journey.
The administration has directed all district authorities, disaster management teams, and concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any weather-related emergencies. Residents living near rivers, streams, nallahs, and landslide-prone areas have been urged to avoid unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rainfall and shift to safer locations if required.
Officials said the weather situation is being monitored round the clock, and fresh advisories will be issued whenever necessary to ensure public safety. The administration has also appealed to the public not to believe or circulate rumours and to rely only on official weather bulletins and government advisories for authentic information.
With monsoon activity expected to remain active throughout the coming week, authorities have urged everyone to exercise caution, follow safety guidelines, and stay updated on the latest weather developments before planning any travel across Jammu and Kashmir.
