More than 12 passengers were injured in a major road accident after a Matador passenger vehicle collided head-on with a truck on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Udhampur district on Tuesday.
According to officials, the collision was so severe that the Matador sustained extensive damage, leaving several passengers trapped inside the vehicle. Soon after the accident, local residents, along with teams from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Traffic Police, and emergency responders, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Some of those with serious injuries were later referred to a higher medical facility for advanced care. Authorities said the condition of a few passengers remains critical.
The accident also disrupted traffic on the busy national highway, leading to temporary congestion before the damaged vehicles were removed and normal traffic movement was restored.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
