After more than nine months, normal rail traffic to and from Jammu will resume fully from May 31, 2026, following the completion of restoration work on Railway Bridge No. 17 between Kathua and Madhopur, which was damaged in last year’s flash floods.
Railway officials said interlocking work on the section will be completed by May 31, allowing train movement on both Up and Down lines from June onwards. Earlier, only a single track was operational due to repair work.
Several major trains that were cancelled during the restoration period will now resume services from June, including Jammu Tawi Garib Rath Express, Sabarmati Express, Katra Express, Humsafar Express, and Janmabhoomi Express.
The Railways said the restoration will improve passenger travel to Jammu, Katra, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, while also supporting freight movement and commercial activities.
Meanwhile, Jammu Division has also announced additional coaches in Train No. 12426 Jammu Tawi–New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Train No. 04082 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–New Delhi Express during the summer rush from June 6 onwards.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jammu, Uchit Singhal, said the decisions were taken to manage increasing passenger demand and provide relief to travelers during the holiday season.
