In a significant step towards enhancing security and ensuring the comfort of women pilgrims, an all-women contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The female CRPF personnel have been assigned the responsibility of frisking women devotees, managing queues, assisting elderly pilgrims, and facilitating smooth movement through security checkpoints before they begin their journey to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine. Their deployment is aimed at making the pilgrimage safer, more organized, and more comfortable for female devotees.
The contingent includes women officers from different parts of the country, reflecting the CRPF’s nationwide representation. Besides maintaining security, the personnel are also helping pilgrims with directions, assisting first-time visitors, and ensuring orderly movement within the base camp. Women pilgrims have welcomed the initiative, saying that the presence of female security personnel has made the security screening process more convenient and reassuring.
The Nunwan Base Camp serves as the main starting point on the traditional 48-kilometre Pahalgam route to the holy cave shrine. With thousands of devotees expected to pass through the camp during the yatra, authorities have put in place a comprehensive multi-layered security system.
The CRPF, in coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and other security agencies, has intensified security arrangements across both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Measures include Road Opening Parties (ROPs), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), dog squads, drone surveillance, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), anti-sabotage checks, and round-the-clock patrolling to ensure a safe and incident-free pilgrimage.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is conducted in a safe, secure, and hassle-free manner, with special emphasis on the safety and convenience of all pilgrims, particularly women.
