The Jammu & Kashmir School Education Department has announced that all government and recognised private schools across the Union Territory will reopen from July 27, bringing the extended summer vacation to an end. Authorities have made it clear that there will be no further extension of the holidays, and all educational institutions have been directed to resume regular classes.
According to officials, the decision was taken after weather conditions improved across the region. Earlier, summer vacations were declared from July 6 to July 19 due to an intense heatwave in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of the Jammu Division. The break was later extended to July 22 because of extreme temperatures.
Subsequently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings of heavy rainfall, strong winds and flash floods between July 20 and July 23, prompting the administration to extend the holidays until July 26 as a precautionary measure.
With weather conditions now returning to normal, the Education Department has decided to reopen schools as scheduled, allowing students and teachers to resume academic activities from Monday.
