Leh, July 3: In a major initiative to enhance employment opportunities for the youth of Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Friday launched an Employment-Linked Skill Training Programme aimed at equipping young people with industry-relevant skills and improving their job prospects.
Under the programme, 36 selected candidates from all seven districts of the Union Territory have been chosen for the first batch. They will undergo residential training in New Delhi at the GMR Varalakshmi Centre for Empowerment and Livelihoods (CEL). The batch comprises 34 women and two men.
The trainees will receive two to three months of industry-oriented training in sectors such as Advanced Computing, Data Visualisation, Cargo and Logistics, Customer Service, Beauty and Spa, Business Banking, Food Production, and Front Office Operations. The programme is designed to prepare participants for employment in leading industries after successful completion of the training.
According to the administration, the training, accommodation and boarding expenses will be borne by the GMR Group under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, while the Ladakh Administration will facilitate the participants’ travel. Placement assistance will also be provided to help the trainees secure jobs after completing the programme.
Speaking at the launch, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena said empowering Ladakh’s youth with market-driven skills is a significant investment in the region’s future. He added that the initiative aims to create sustainable employment opportunities and strengthen the economic prospects of young people across the Union Territory. The administration also announced that another batch of 50 youth will be enrolled in the next phase of the programme.
