Continuing its relentless drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse under ‘Nasha Mukht J&K’ compaign, Anantnag Police apprehended two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police officials said on Monday.
“In the first action, a police party from Police Post Sherbagh, while conducting routine naka checking at Sarnal near Pehru Crossing, intercepted a suspicious individual. During his search, approximately 1.198 kilograms of charas powder was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Shahid Rafiq Nanda, son of Rafiq Ahmad Nanda, resident of Nandpora, Anantnag,” an official spokesperson said in a statement.
Accordingly, FIR No. 179/2026 under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up, he added.
In another operation, the spokesperson said, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Kerikadal. The accused was identified as Mohd Shafi Lone, son of Ghulam Mohi Din Lone, resident of K. Kalan, Bijbehara.
During his search, 56 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹6,000 cash believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking were recovered from his possession.
In this regard, FIR No. 162/2026 under sections 8/29 and FIR No. 179/2026 under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and further investigation is underway, the statement said.
